Simple care tips for gas cookers, pressure cookers, mixer grinders, kettles and air fryers, so your GreenChef and Green Life appliances last for years.
Most kitchen appliances that fail early were not faulty; they were overloaded, left wet or never cleaned in the right place. These kitchen appliance care tips cover the GreenChef and Green Life appliances Sri Lankan homes use every day, from the gas cooker and pressure cooker to the mixer grinder, kettle and air fryer, so they keep working for years.
Quick answer

What care habits help every appliance?
- Unplug before cleaning, and let anything that heats up cool first.
- Never put a motor base or heating base in water; wipe it with a damp cloth.
- Dry every part fully before you store it, especially in humid weather.
- Plug high-power appliances straight into a wall socket, not a crowded extension board.
- Read the manual's care section once; following it also keeps your warranty valid.
How do you care for a gas cooker?
Lift off the burner caps and pan supports once a week and wash them in warm soapy water; a blocked burner gives a yellow, uneven flame. Wipe spills from glass or steel tops as soon as the cooker is cool. Check the hose for cracks and the regulator connection every few months. If a burner will not light or clicks without lighting, our gas stove troubleshooting guide walks you through safe checks, and our gas cylinder safety checklist covers the regulator and hose.
How do you care for a pressure cooker?
After each use, take the gasket out and wash it with the lid, and check you can see light through the vent pipe. Replace the gasket when it hardens, cracks or lets steam escape round the rim. Do not store sour curries in an aluminium cooker overnight; move them into another dish. Our pressure cooker buying guide explains each safety part.
How do you care for a mixer grinder?
Do not overfill the jars, and add a little liquid for wet grinding so the blades are not working dry. Run in short bursts: the GreenChef Focal is rated for 5 minutes on and 2 minutes off. Wash the jars and lids straight after use, dry the base of each jar, and keep water away from the motor unit.
How do you care for a kettle?
Empty leftover water at the end of the day and descale every month or two in hard water, more often if you see white flakes. Close the lid before switching on so the auto shut-off works on time. Our kettle descaling guide shows the lime and vinegar methods.
How do you care for an air fryer and an infrared cooker?
Air fryer: let it cool, then wash the bowl and crisper plate in warm soapy water. On the Greenlife glass air fryer, use the oven mitts from the box when handling the hot glass bowl, and leave space round the vent.
Infrared cooker: wipe the glass top only when it is cool, lift pots rather than sliding them, and keep the vents clear. The GreenChef Jawa Pro has a child lock and auto shut-off; use them.
How do you care for choppers, blenders and sandwich makers?
- Choppers and blenders: rinse the bowl or jar straight after use; dried onion and fruit sugar are hardest to clean. Handle blades by the centre stem.
- Sandwich, waffle and donut makers: wipe the non-stick plates with a soft cloth once cool; never use steel wool or a metal spatula.
- Hand mixer: eject the beaters and wash them straight away; never put the motor body in water.
How often should you clean each appliance?
| Appliance | After each use | Every week or month |
|---|---|---|
| Gas cooker | Wipe spills when cool | Wash burner caps weekly; check hose every few months |
| Pressure cooker | Wash gasket, lid and vent | Replace gasket when worn |
| Mixer grinder | Wash jars and lids | Check jar couplers for wear |
| Kettle | Empty leftover water | Descale every month or two |
| Air fryer | Wash bowl and plate | Wipe inside the top when cool |
When should you stop and call us?
If an appliance smells of burning, trips the power, sparks, or a pressure cooker leaks steam from the wrong place, stop using it. Do not open it or have it repaired elsewhere: repairs by anyone other than Green Life or its authorised dealers are not covered by the warranty. Every product has a 1-year warranty against manufacturing defects, and our Warranty and Repairs page explains how a repair works.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put mixer grinder jars in water?

Why is my gas flame yellow?
Usually a dirty or wet burner cap. Clean and dry it; if it stays yellow, contact us.
How often should I change a pressure cooker gasket?
When it hardens, cracks or steam escapes round the rim instead of through the whistle.
Does cleaning the wrong way affect my warranty?
Damage from misuse or not following the instructions is not covered, so follow the care section of the manual.
